Secured loans customers 'should avoid sales'

07/01/2008
Those looking to take care of their outstanding debt in the new year have been advised that avoiding the January sales is vital.

According to the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) many people who are attempting to reorganise their finances, which many people choose to do with secured loans and debt consolidation, need first of all to target their spending habits.

James Ketchell, spokesperson for the CCCS, said that the best advice he could give to those dealing with post-Christmas debt is to avoid spending and create a budget.

"In the new year, especially if one's had a really expensive Christmas, the first thing to do is to not go to the sales, because there's nothing worse than having a big credit card debt, and piling on another load,"

He added that seeking financial advice on debt was not uncommon and that people often benefit from independent financial help.

The CCCS is a charity which offers independent advice on financial issues.
