Women could benefit from secured loans
30/01/2008Female consumers may struggle more with debt as a new survey has revealed women are more "financially overweight" than men.
According to the study, conducted by ICM for Abbey, women are less likely to be in a strong financial position than male consumers - which could lead many to consider the benefits of debt consolidation with secured loans.
Commenting on the research, a spokeswoman for Abbey said that many women do not shop around for the best financial products and are less likely to save than men.
Nici Audhlam-Gardiner, head of mortgages at Abbey, said: "About 70 per cent of women say that they don't have savings for any more than three months, so they wouldn't be able to survive in an emergency."
The research also found the number of people in the north west who had failed to secure a competitive mortgage rate was around 35 per cent - making it the most financially unfit region in the country.
