Direct debit
If you set up a direct debit with your bank account, you are arranging for a sum of money to be payed out from your account automatically. This might be a single direct debit payment, or it might be something you wish to arrange on a regular basis for paying utility bills, for example. Usually you will have some consistent monthly outgoings to the same places, and setting up a direct debit to pay these bills means you don’t have to worry about physically going about paying them yourself. Once the direct debit is set up, they will be taken care of without any further input from you.
Only you can change the details of your direct debits such as the amount to be sent and when to send it, so you don’t have to worry that a particular company can vary what’s happening with your money.
