HMLR
The HMLR (Her Majesty’s Land Registry) is the official registrar of property in England and Wales since 1862, and holds the records for all property and title transfers. According to the HMLR, over £1 million worth of property records need updating every minute, and the HMLR must oversee all of these and maintain up-to-date records of who owns what. They have the world’s largest property registration database and guarantee that the ownership details they oversee are correct.
If you write to the HMLR requesting details of a particular property then they are obliged to tell you what you want to know, unless doing so breaches conditions such as national security, the official secrets act, and other similar stipulated exemptions.
