Structural Survey

A structural survey is a thorough estimation of a buildings safety and structure by a Structural Engineer or Chartered Surveyor. If a structural survey is carried out and pronounces a house to be fine, and it subsequently proves to be dangerous then the surveyor can be sued for negligence.

You can use a structural survey of a house you are going to buy as a negotiating tool to reduce how much you have to pay, if the structural survey shows the property to be deficient in some way.
