A secured loan may help with home improvements

Using a secured loan could help pay for DIY and home improvement tasks, which are easier to do than one might think, it has been said.

Ben Richards, content editor for decorating website housetohome, recently discussed how much simpler some jobs are than they seem.

His comments follow research from Sainsbury's Home Insurance, which discovered that 65 per cent of adults have tried their hand at DIY in the past year, saving an estimated £49 billion overall.

Online videos and guides can help people who are unsure and the result could be a good money-saving tool, Mr Richards added.

"With everyone trying to save money, tackling wallpapering a feature wall yourself rather than paying for a decorator can save quite a few pennies," the expert remarked.

However, more complex tasks should be left to the professionals, because the potential damage could be pricier to fix than the job itself.

Mr Richards advised consumers to get in a contractor for boiler or plumbing work.
